Exhibition Studio Workshop – Works from the Collection #1 is the first of a series of displays in the entrance space and ramp of CHELSEA Space to accompany the CHELSEA space core programme in the main exhibiting area.
Works from the Collection #1 has been curated collaboratively by students on the MA Curating and Collections course with the Director of Exhibitions, Donald Smith and associate lecturer Lynton Talbot and exhibits artifacts from the collections of CHELSEA space and the Library Special Collections, Chelsea College of Arts, and the ILEA / Camberwell Collection. The display acts as an introductory space, subtly setting a narrative with a number of themes interplaying between objects and attempts to set out the visual language of the main exhibition Bob Cobbing: Bill Jubobe.
The selection explores notions of repetition, rhythm, colour, visual "noise" and the shape of language; reflecting on themes and ideas that have been explored by Bob Cobbing. The exhibition showcases artworks which are placed between highly coloured mass produced domestic objects from the 1960s and 1970s. The works on display range from 1913 - 2012, bold graphics and strong colour echo an idea of urgency and potential across a century of activism and creativity.

About the CHELSEA space
CHELSEA space is a public exhibiting space where invited art and design professionals are encouraged to work on experimental curatorial projects that may not otherwise be realised. From 2014 the Exhibition Studio Workshop was introduced into CHELSEA space, showing a changing selection of works and objects from the CHELSEA space, Chelsea College of Arts Library and Special Collections, in addition to the established exhibition programme. The Exhibition Studio Workshop is the practice-based strand of the new MA Curating and Collections postgraduate taught course.
